Physical therapy

Physical Therapy helps patients maintain, regain or improve their physical ability when affected by illness, sports injuries or simply by aging. Physical therapy is a branch of physiatry, and physical therapists use their training and skills to treat a wide range of problems associated with movement difficulties, pain relief, or injuries. At Athens Rehab, we seek to identify the cause of your symptoms and to maximize your quality of life, enabling you to increase control of your movements and to gradually gain confidence in your movement capacities. Physical Therapy as a medical science involves specialization in anatomy, neurology and physiology in order to facilitate the successful diagnosis, prevention, rehabilitation or treatment. “Physiotherapy is science-based and committed to expanding, applying, evaluating and revising evidence that enhances and updates practice and performance.”

The exercise of clinical judgment and informed interpretation remain the core of Physical Therapy.” Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, UK

Exercise therapy

There are numerous methods that relieve athletes or people with mobility problems from pain. In addition, numerous mechanical approaches are used to enhance the patient’s movement, such as cold or warm compresses, ultrasound, etc. These methods, however, are most effective when combined with therapeutic exercise. Yet, this approach alone is not enough. Therapeutic exercise should be guided and supervised by an expert, as it is not an ordinary type of exercise. The McKenzie approach is recommended for example for treating symptoms and problems related to back pain. At Athens Rehab, we design personalized exercise programs according to your needs, taking into account your own range of motion, your activity level and your body type, in order to improve your daily functioning. A personalized exercise program will be created for you, with effective exercises for your spine, amongst others. We will be with you through the development of a final personalized program designed specifically for your needs, where a trial-and-error approach will be adapted in its design in order for us to be able to examine your response to the exercises and facilitate your adaptation to them. Finally, we will help you refine your technique in training that will increase the efficiency of the program and will protect you from future spinal injuries.
